“FaceTime” is a video calling app, which is found in Apple iOS devices. This app was developed by Apple Inc., and is supported on all iOS mobile devices having a front-facing camera, and also on all Macintosh computers having a FaceTime camera and running on MAC OS X 10.6.6. This app is currently unavailable on android and windows platforms due to its ownership rights.

Apple bought the name “FaceTime” from a private company called “FaceTime communications”. This company later changed its name to “Actiance Inc.” in January 2011.

How to troubleshoot FaceTime?

Before I discuss the methods which should be used to troubleshoot FaceTime in your iOS device, I want you to make sure that the following things are enabled in your device:-

1. Make sure you have your number at the top of the contact list.

Go to the phone app first, and under the “All contacts” option, just make sure you have your number at the top.

If you don’t see your number “All contacts”; then follow these steps:-

Go to the iPhone “settings”-> then go to “Phone” option-> Click on “My number” option-> Finally, enter your number and click on “save”.

2. Make sure the date and time are set to “automatic”.

If it’s not already set to “automatic”, then follow these steps:-

Go to the iPhone “settings”-> then click on “General”-> Click on “Date and Time”-> Finally, enable the option “set automatically”.

3. Make sure you have a working cellular or Wi-Fi network.

Sometimes, some issues with your Cellular network or Wifi-Network may also lead to your FaceTime app not working on your iOS device. So, just make sure that your network is working properly.

4. Make sure your software is updated to the latest version.

Follow these steps to check that your software is updated:-

Go to settings-> Then click on “General”-> Click on “software update” and make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest version. Along with bug fixes, there is a possibility that your FaceTime activation problem could be solved.

Method 1:- Try calling your carrier:

The first thing you should do is to give a call to your carrier, as there might be a possibility that your carrier does not support FaceTime. There might be some limitations to your carrier. Any of such problems could be possible, so the best thing that you can do is to call your carrier so that they might help you with solving the FaceTime not working issues.

If Method 1 does not help you to fix your FaceTime issue, try using Method 2.

Method 2:- Try Airplane mode:

Using this method has actually helped to solve the “FaceTime not working” problem.

Step 1: Go to settings.

Step 2: Find “FaceTime” and click on it.

Step 3: Now turn FaceTime off by clicking on the slider.

Step 4: Now, turn on the “Airplane mode”. Wait for a few seconds, and now turn off the “Airplane mode”.

Step 5: Go to FaceTime again, and turn it on by clicking on the slider. You will see, “waiting for activation”. Hopefully, soon your FaceTime would start to work perfectly fine.

Method 3:- Try Apple ID sign-out and sign-in:

Step 2: Go to FaceTime.

Step 3: Click on your Apple ID.

Step 4: A pop-up window will appear. Click on “sign out”.

Step 5: Again, go to FaceTime. Click on “use your Apple ID for FaceTime”.

Step 6: A pop-up window will appear. Enter your Apple ID and password in the respective fields, and click on “sign In”.

Step 7: Wait for a few seconds. You should definitely have a working FaceTime now. If it does not work, just turn the FaceTime slider off once, and turn it back on.

If Method 3 does not fix your FaceTime issue, try using method 4.

Method 4:- Try to Reset/Restore your device

If all of the above-discussed methods fail to work, then Method 4 is your last option. Hopefully, this method should definitely work, and your FaceTime should start working.

Follow these steps to do a total reset of all the settings, and erase all the content in your device.

Step 1: Go to settings.

Step 2: Find and click on “General”.

Step 3: Keep scrolling down, you will find the “reset” option. Click on it.

Step 4: Click on “Erase all content and settings”.

Step 5: Finally, enter the passcode of your device.

Make sure to create a backup of your iPhone’s data, before you do the device reset. The entire data stored in your device will get lost after following the above steps, but the error “waiting for activation for FaceTime” should definitely be fixed.
